Chess every Tuesday 6:30 pm at Ajax High School | Blitz Tournament Nov. 2 Ajax Public Library

Ajax Chess Club

Every Tuesday you’ll see them come from across Durham Region. Sometimes Further. They’re chess players and they look forward to an evening of friendship and chess playing at Ajax High School. The club features players from 8 to 80 (older and younger too!) all coming for a spot of fun. Some play in progressive tournaments and others just enjoy finding a worthy opponent. There’s newbies and the occasional master.

Come and see for yourself! In one year the group has grown to more than 100 members – a testimony to the common bond, the friendship and of course the fun of playing chess.

What We Do

Learn, Grow, Have Fun!

Weekly Workshops

Our most experienced players show new members young and old the ins and outs of the game on an ongoing basis. Club members enjoy seeing new players greatly improve their skills.

League & Tournaments

A dedicated group of volunteers set up novice, intermediate and experienced player tournaments on an ongoing basis during Tuesday night play. It’s a great chance to sharpen your skills and meet new players.  We hold the occasional Saturday tournament too!

Meet New People

For many players it’s simply a chance to get out of the house and pursue a hobby with like-minded individuals. Games turn into new friendships and many playrs continue their enjoyment with online chess either meeting up online or joining one of the club’s online tournaments.

You can always find a game

I enjoy the fellowship and meeting people,” says Bob, also an adult player. “There are a lot of skillful players – quite a range – and that makes it challenging.”
